Each year, the Hazing Prevention Network recognizes individuals who have made meaningful contributions to hazing prevention through the Hank Nuwer Anti-Hazing Hero Awards. But lasting prevention also requires campuses and organizations willing to lead—building stronger systems, investing in education, engaging their communities, and continually working to create cultures where hazing is less likely to occur.
The Leadership in Hazing Prevention Awards, presented by Hazing Prevention Network in partnership with Penn State’s Piazza Center, recognize campuses and organizations demonstrating a meaningful and sustained commitment to hazing prevention. These awards are not about perfection or the absence of challenges. They recognize leadership in action: thoughtful and effective prevention strategies, collaboration, continuous learning and improvement, and a commitment to creating safer, healthier experiences where people can belong without being hazed.
Leadership in Hazing Award – Campus
The Leadership in Hazing Prevention Award recognizes a college or university that demonstrates an outstanding commitment to preventing hazing through intentional leadership, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Recipients have built comprehensive, research-informed prevention efforts that strengthen policies, education, culture, and accountability while fostering environments where students can experience belonging without hazing. This award honors leadership in action—not perfection—and recognizes institutions committed to continually advancing safer campus communities.
Leadership in Hazing Award – Organization
The Leadership in Hazing Prevention Award recognizes a fraternity or sorority council, student organization council, athletic department, band program, national organization, or other campus-affiliated organization that has demonstrated exceptional leadership in preventing hazing. Recipients have invested in meaningful education, healthy traditions, member development, and organizational accountability while creating cultures rooted in respect, belonging, and positive experiences. The award celebrates organizations that lead by example and embrace prevention as an ongoing responsibility.
Nomination Process:
Campuses and organizations may apply directly or be nominated by others for a Leadership in Hazing Prevention Award. Submissions should highlight meaningful prevention efforts, demonstrate evidence of impact or progress, and share how the campus or organization is working to strengthen its approach over time.
Applications and nominations are accepted through December 31 each year. Submissions will be reviewed by the Hazing Prevention Network, with award recipients selected and recognized the following spring.
