Board of Directors

Hazing Prevention Network is governed by a volunteer board of directors who give their time, knowledge, experience, talent, and resources to hazing prevention. They bring a wide range of experience to our organization including experience in higher education, fraternal organizations, performing arts, the law, and college athletics. Several are recognized researchers and educators in the field of hazing research and prevention.

Marc Mores

President

Marc Mores, CIC, CRM, CAE, is Executive Vice President of James R. Favor & Company LLC, an exclusive provider of Lloyd’s of London insurance products for fraternities and sororities. Prior to joining Favor & Company, Marc held several key staff positions with the national offices of Phi Delta Theta where he was instrumental in developing the organization’s “Don’t Tarnish the Badge” anti-hazing campaign. He’s a frequent speaker at fraternity leadership events and on college campuses, addressing hazing, alcohol and risk management.

Scott Bova

Treasurer

Scott Bova, CFRE, is President of Triangle Education Foundation where he is responsible for the Foundation’s daily operations and revenue generation. Scott is the former Director of Alumni Affairs and Development and former Chief Operating Officer of Phi Kappa Theta National Foundation.

Bonnie Wunsch

Secretary

Bonnie Wunsch is executive director of Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority, a position she has held for 30 years. She also serves as the development director of the Alpha Epsilon Phi Foundation. In both roles, she is responsible for daily operations and policy implementation. She is the organization’s chief risk manager. She has previously served as president of the Fraternity Executives Association, Executive Directors Association and FIPG, Inc. She is currently on the boards of the Fraternity and Sorority Political Action Committee and Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors Foundation.

Linda Knight

Linda Knight is the Executive Director of Health & Wellness and Director of Campus Recreation at the College of William and Mary. Linda co-chairs the Hazing Prevention Coalition at William and Mary, which is a recipient of HPO’s Zeta Tau Alpha Award for Campus Innovation in Hazing Prevention and Education.

Travis Apgar

Travis T. Apgar is Assistant Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, in Troy, NY. He holds advanced degrees in psychology and education administration and has received national recognition as an outstanding student affairs professional. Educator, writer, and consultant, Travis has been a featured speaker on hundreds of college campuses, and at conferences across the country, working with thousands of students, faculty, administrators, and coaches with the goal of putting a stop to hazing. Considered an authority on hazing prevention, he has contributed to the National Hazing Prevention Week Resource Guide and assisted with the development of the NCAA Hazing Prevention Handbook. He has appeared in Haze, a documentary released by the Gordie Foundation, on PBS NewsHour and on HuffPost Live.

Brad Beacham

Brad Beacham is Executive Director and CEO of Sigma Nu Fraternity, where he is responsible for leading implementation of the Fraternity’s strategic plan. Brad brings more than 26 years of fraternity management experience and leadership in the interfraternal field. He is past president of the Fraternity Executives Association, and past president of FIPG, among other appointments.

Sean Callan

Sean Callan, JD, is a Founding Partner of Fraternal Law Partners, which advises national fraternities, sororities, foundations and house corporations on a range of business issues. He also offers Greek organization risk management, anti-hazing and incident management services. He is a national speaker on issues confronting the Greek industry. Sean is a member of the Dartmouth College Alpha Chi Alpha Fraternity.

B. Elliot Hopkins, MLD, CAA

Elliot Hopkins is the National Federation of State High School Association's director of sports, sanctioning and educational services. His responsibilities include, but are not limited to, being the staff liaison to the NFHS Citizenship and Equity Committee. In addition, he is the NFHS Baseball and Field Hockey Rules Editor; he also supervises the NFHS Resource Center, which includes the National High School Activities Month effort, numerous national surveys and NFHS Sanctioning Program. Currently, he is the director of the NFHS Student Leadership Conference and speaks nationally to students exclusively about hazing prevention and sportsmanship. Elliot is a contributor to NFHS Creating a Safe and Respectful Environment Course (www.nfhslearn.com). Elliot has been an instructor for the Indiana Department of Education School Safety Academy and the Kentucky Center of School Safety, a division of the Kentucky School Boards Association. He has served on the USA Baseball executive committee representing the NFHS and is a long-standing committee member of USA Baseball Sports Medicine Advisory Committee.

Janet P. Judge

Janet P. Judge is a higher education and employment law attorney who focuses her practice in the area of sports and civil rights law. Based in Boston, she has more than 30 years of experience in higher education, intercollegiate sports, and labor and employment law. Ms. Judge has conducted workshops at more than 500 NCAA Division I, II and III institutions, athletic conferences and sport coaches’ associations. She has been a speaker before the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), NCAA, National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and NACUA, among others. Prior to joining Holland & Knight, she was the founder and president of Sports Law Associates LLC, where she worked with college and university presidents, general counsel and athletic administrators to assess, reduce and remedy areas of risk in athletics programs.

Lianne Kowiak

Lianne Kowiak is a hazing prevention advocate and part of the Anti-Hazing Coalition (AHC), having spoken to thousands of students at universities and high schools. The AHC has met with key decision-makers in their efforts to pass national hazing legislation. Her son, Harrison, lost his life as a result of fraternity hazing during his sophomore year in college at the age of 19. Her mission is to raise awareness and educate students about the dangers of hazing, and to save lives. Lianne is a recipient of the Hank Nuwer Anti Hazing Hero Award and has appeared on Dateline NBC, CNN, BBC, Huffington Post Live, HLN, and other news media outlets to spotlight the dangers associated with hazing.

Founding Board of Directors

Tracy Maxwell

Tracy Maxwell is the Founder and Emeritus Executive Director of HPO. She launched HPO in 2007 and served as the organization’s Executive Director for five years. Tracy worked in and around higher education throughout her career. She served in a consulting role as Greek Solutions Coordinator for the National Inter-Fraternity and Panhellenic Conferences, then as Coordinator of Greek Life and Community Service at the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater. She joined CAMPUSPEAK, where she served in a variety of capacities including Executive Director. She continues to speak on the topic of hazing prevention for CAMPUSPEAK. Tracy is also a speaker on surviving cancer and a retreat leader for other survivors. She is the author of “My Dance with Cancer: A Solo Survivor’s Guide to Life, Love, Health and Happiness."

Dan Bureau

Dan Bureau, PhD, is the Director of Student Affairs Learning and Assessment at the University of Memphis. Dan is an educational consultant, past member of the executive board of the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors and a past Trustee for Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity.

Marilyn Fordham

Marilyn Fordham is Past International President and Vice President of Finance for Delta Gamma Fraternity. She has served as a member of the National Panhellenic Conference leadership team and as a member of the Interagency Task Force. Marilyn has served on the advisory boards for several organizations serving higher education and Greek Life.

Joe Gilman

Joe Gilman, a Vice President for AT&T, is a past-President of the HPO Board. Joe brings more than 30 years of business and fraternity volunteer experience to his service. He was a long-time volunteer for Sigma Nu Fraternity, where he served in several capacities including as International President and a Foundation director.

Gina Lee-Olukoya

Gina Lee-Olukoya, Ph.D. is the Associate Dean of Students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and serves on the foundation of Hope Street Youth Development. Gina is the author of “Sisterhood: Hazing and other Membership Experiences of Women Belonging to Historically African American Sororities.”

Hank Nuwer

Hank Nuwer is the author of "Hazing: Destroying Young Lives," "Wrongs of Passage," "High School Hazing" and "The Hazing Reader." Hank wrote about hazing from 1978 until his semi-retirement in September 2018. However, his semi-retirement proved to be a sabbatical instead, and he again is working on a seminal book on hazing in the United States and former colonies. His Hazing Prevention blog can be found on his website, HankNuwer.com. He is keeping a record of hazing deaths at schools since the first death in 1838. He transitioned from a full-time professor of journalism at Franklin College to being a full-time author and a Franklin professor of journalism, professional writing and communication. The ABC-CLIO publishing company contacted Hank in mid-August 2019 to research and write the book “Hazing in American Culture." He has accepted the challenge in addition to his other book projects in various stages of development. This will be a far more broad-ranging book than his previous.

David Stollman

David Stollman is an Owner and Partner of CAMPUSPEAK, Inc., the nation’s premier agency for speakers and education on topics of interest to college students. David is a noted speaker on Greek-life topics, a chapter advisor for the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority chapter at New York University, and a former AFA Foundation Board Member and District Officer for Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

Allison Swick-Duttine

Allison Swick-Duttine is Director of Fraternity/Sorority Life & Organization Development at State University of New York College at Plattsburgh. She has served her sorority, Sigma Sigma Sigma, as National Vice President. Allison is a presenter on hazing topics including dealing with a death on campus and underground organizations.

David Westol, JD

David Westol, JD, is the Founder of Limberlost Consulting, providing strategic planning and consulting to campuses, organizations and foundations. A former Executive Director of Theta Chi Fraternity and a long-time anti-hazing speaker, Dave was instrumental in the formation of the Fraternity Insurance Purchasing Group (FIPG), which now serves an educational role in the Greek community.
