The Hazing Prevention Network (HPN) is excited to welcome Rasheed Ali Cromwell, Esq., to the board of directors after his election at the April board meeting.
“I have admired Rasheed and the success he has had in the higher education industry connecting with students, administrators, parents, and fellow advocates,” said HPN Board President Marc Mores. “He will bring fresh insight and experience to our board of directors. We look forward to his assistance in helping HPN grow and raise awareness on the challenging issue of hazing.”
Cromwell is the founder and president of The Harbor Institute, an educational consulting firm based in Washington, D.C. He has presented keynotes and training sessions at over 300 colleges/universities in 45 states. He brings a unique multidisciplinary approach from his experiences as a former federal law clerk, practicing attorney, educational consultant and speaker/trainer to his work which includes hazing prevention and intervention, cultural competency, leadership development, and culturally based fraternal organization (CBFO) recruitment and retention.
“I am excited to join the Hazing Prevention Network leadership at the board level. Through the years I have had the opportunity to speak and train at HPN programs, and at campuses nationwide, on hazing prevention/intervention,” said Cromwell.
Cromwell taught and co-developed the curriculum for the Fraternal Values and Leadership Series at Howard University;served as a professor and co-developed the curriculum for a Black Greek leadership class at The Ohio State University; and was co-founding faculty of the Cross-Cultural Fraternal Advisors Institute (CCFAI). He has been featured in multiple articles and publications on culturally based fraternal organizations including British Broadcasting Corporation’s (BBC) “The Pledge” and most recently the award-winning documentary “Hazing” which debuted to millions around the world on Public Broadcasting System (PBS). He co-authored “The Harbor Institute’s Guide to CBFOs” (2022). He is a proud fourth generation graduate from a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) and member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Cromwell volunteers with his fraternity graduate chapter, Kappa Psi, in D.C. where he also serves as attorney and advisor for the DC-National PanHellenic Council (DCNPHC). He also practices law serving as counsel for the Fraternity and Sorority Law Group (FSLG). Among his accolades, he was awarded the Jack L. Anson Award in 2023 by the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors (AFA) for demonstrating a continued commitment to the fraternity/sorority community and assisting in developing partnerships within higher education and the interfraternal community.
“Rasheed brings a passion for hazing prevention education and such an ease in discussing the topic,” said HPN Executive Director Todd Shelton. “He knows the ins and outs of culturally-based fraternal organizations and I look forward to the addition of his perspectives on the board.”
