Our Legacy, Our Promise: Positive and Effective New Member Activities
This workshop presented by a Hazing Prevention Network facilitator at your campus or facility interactively engages participants as they work together to understand and identify the chapter specific motivators for participation in hazing, the outcomes that are important to their new member activities, and a critical analysis of potential unintended effects. Participants will leave the workshop having prioritized strategies they plan to implement to prevent hazing in their chapter.
Target Audience:
This workshop is best for organizations/chapters who have previously engaged in hazing and show a willingness to make change. It can be used as a developmental program in alignment with other sanctions designed to support culture change in the organization.
Approx. Length:
3.5 hours divided into two modules
- Module 1 via Zoom, 1 hour (Chapter leaders and advisors)
- Module 2 in person, 2.5 hours (All chapter members)

Outcomes:
As a result of participating in the Hazing Prevention Campus Workshop Modules:
Module 1 (60 minutes):
- Participants will know what to expect from the facilitator and Module 2.
- Participants will discuss past new member program components & practices.
- Participants understand their role as leaders in stewarding this change and understanding of influencers.
Module 2 (2.5 hours)
- Participants will accurately define hazing.
- Participants will describe motivators for hazing.
- Participants will define the outcomes of a positive new member experience.
- Participants will determine activities that can achieve positive new member outcomes.
- Participants will conduct a risk analysis with the intent of reducing unintended outcomes.
- Participants will report confidence in their ability to make change in their organization.
- Participants will understand the next steps for enacting a new member education program that aligns with campus and organizational expectations.
